Meg Halcomb
Dr. Meg Halcomb, Emergency Management Specialist, joined the CEMA team in the Planning Division in 2024. Dr. Halcomb hails from Kentucky with a career spanning Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and now Georgia.
Dr. Halcomb brings comprehensive professional experience to her current role including public health emergency preparedness with an emphasis in biological and chemical hazards, pandemic response and planning, training and exercise development, volunteer management, university teaching, agriculture emergency response planning, and veterinary medicine clinical practice with large animals and pets.
Dr. Meg earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, summa cum laude, and her Master's of Public Health degree from the Ohio State University. While at OSU, she also completed a Veterinary Public Health residency where she managed multiple projects working with government agencies in emergency planning.
Her passion for emergency management emerged from years of veterinary emergencies, experience working with emergency partners across multiple levels of government during her residency, and a practicum in Washington, D.C. with the National Disaster Medical System of the Department of Health and Human Services. She then carried this passion for emergency preparedness into serving in the public health response of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her current role, Dr. Meg brings her passion for emergency management into overseeing ESF #1 – Transportation and ESF #18 – Animal Services planning. She enjoys the challenge of serving the community in comprehensively preparing for all hazards by bringing partners and agencies together. This service is a passion brought on by seeing the impact of disasters first-hand and understanding the importance of preparedness in promoting community resilience.
