Hurricane Milton Update:
Winds:
Frequent gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible with the highest winds occurring along the immediate coastline, on exposed highways leading to barrier islands such as Highway 80 and on elevated bridges and overpasses. Winds will then steadily weaken late this afternoon and tonight. Winds of this magnitude will likely down or uproot trees and cause power outages.
Storm surge:Elevated tide levels are occurring along the coast this morning. Storm surge inundation of 1 to 3 feet above normally dry ground is possible along the coast. The greatest potential for inundation will occur with the afternoon high tide. Additional coastal flooding is possible with high tide cycles Thursday night, Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon.

What to do with the debris in your yard:
Chatham County may experience tropical storm conditions from Hurricane Milton on Thursday. This could cause storm debris left out after Hurricane Helene to be scattered by the winds. While the County has been working hard and partnered with Ashbritt for debris removal, debris may still be in your yard.
Here’s how you can help:
• If possible, bring your debris to one of our drop-off sites on Wilmington Island, Chevis Road, or Sharon Park (details below).
• If you can’t visit a drop-off site, securely tie down debris with ropes or straps to keep it in place.
• For large items, consider storing them in a garage or shed until the storm passes.
