INFORMATION RELEASE #2
Tropical Storm Tammy October 5, 2005 5:00 pm At 5 PM on October 5, 2005 Tropical Storm Tammy was located near latitude 30.1 North, longitude 81.2 West or about 35 miles East-Southeast of Jacksonville, FL and was moving toward the north-northwest near 14 mph. This general motion, with a gradual decrease in forward speed, is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 MPH with higher gusts, only to weaken as the center moves inland. Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 260 miles North and East of the center. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from Flagler Beach, Florida northward to south Santee River, South Carolina. Under the current forecast Tammy is expected to produce 3 to 5 inches of rainfall over portions of Northern Florida, Southeastern Georgia and Eastern South Carolina. Residents of coastal southeastern Georgia and southeastern South Carolina should make preparations for very heavy rainfall and possible Tropical Storm force wind gusts along the immediate coast. Secure loose objects or bring them inside. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected. With the potential for flooding from this heavy rainfall, a Flood Watch has been issued through Thursday afternoon. CEMA will remain in Operating Condition (OPCON) 4 or the Monitoring Phase as defined by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. OPCON 4 is the first stage in advanced readiness. All interested parties should maintain vigilance in monitoring this storm through local media. The next Information Release will be submitted as conditions warrant |
