Hurricane Ophelia

At 5:00 PM on September 10, 2005 Hurricane Ophelia was located near latitude 31.8 North longitude 76.2 West or about 257 miles Southeast of Savannah, GA. Ophelia is moving toward the North near 2 mph. Very little motion is expected tonight or Sunday.  
 
Ophelia has maximum sustained winds near 80 mph with higher gusts making Ophelia a strong Category 1 hurricane. No significant change in strength during the next 24 hours is forecasted. Please keep in mind that minor changes with each advisory could result in major changes to the forecast track and storm dynamics. Under the current forecast track, Ophelia is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Wilmington, NC Tuesday morning.  
 
CEMA remains at Operating Condition (OPCON) 4 which is the first stage of advanced readiness. A thorough check of emergency supplies and evacuation plans is in order. Emergency response agencies should review their hurricane plans and determine the availability of their assets, resources and personnel. Those agencies that have the responsibility to share information should be doing so at this time.  
 
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is deactivating for the day. CEMA Staff will continue to monitor the progress of the storm overnight.  
 
The next Situation Report will be issued as conditions warrant
